CSI & CNI BURIYAL SERVICE AT CEMETERY
THE BURIAL
The minister meets the procession at the gate of the cemetery, and says:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from thee dead. 1 Pet. 1: 3
As the body is taken to the grave, the minister says sentences from the Bible, such as thee following:
Christ has been raised from the dead, thee first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor. 15: 20-22
Fear not, says the Lord; I am the first and the last, and thee living one; I died, and behold I am alive for evermore. Rev. 1: 17, 18
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Ps. 23: 4
At the graveside the minister says:

Christ has many services to be done; some are easy, others are difficult; some bring honor, others bring reproach; some are suitable to our natural inclinations and temporal interests, others are contrary to both. In some we may please Christ and please ourselves, in others we cannot please Christ except by denying ourselves. Yet the power to do all these things is assuredly given us in Christ, who strengtheneth us.
Therefore let us make the covenant of God our own. Let us engage our heart to the Lord, and resolve in His strength never to go back.
Being thus prepared, let us now, in sincere dependence on His grace and trusting in His promises, yield ourselves anew to Him, meekly kneeling upon our knees.

O LORD God, Holy Father, who hast called us through Christ to be partakers in this gracious covenant, we take upon ourselves with joy the yoke of obedience, and engage ourselves, for love of thee, to seek and to do thy perfect will. We are no longer our own, but thine.

THE OFFICE FOR MAKING
A CATECHUMEN
The admission of a person as a catechumen should normally be at a service of public worship, and may take place after the Lessons. Suitable lessons may be read.
After the Lessons, the candidate is led forward by his sponsors, and the presbyter says:
N, who is present here, desires to be received as a catechumen. He has promised to undergo regular instruction. Let us therefore pray for him and welcome him with brotherly love.
Let us pray
ALMIGHTY and most merciful God, we pray thee to look favorably upon this person who desires to be brought out of darkness into the clear light of thy truth and the glorious liberty of thy children. Grant that he may now make a sincere profession of his purpose, and may receive of thee grace to continue steadfast in the path he has chosen, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
He then asks: N, what do you desire?
Answer: I ask of you Christian teaching and Holy Baptism.
Do you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Answer: I do.
Are you willing to place yourself under our guidance and instruction that you may be prepared for admission into the Church by baptism?

A CATECHUMEN

A THANKSGIVING AFTER CHILDBIRTH
This thanksgiving should be made at a public service of the Church, and the congregation should join in the saying of the Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer.
The Mother and Father, bringing the newly born child, kneel before the Holy Table, or at some other covenant place and the minister facing them says:
Almighty God has been good to you in giving you the gift of a child.

As the Presbyter (minister) comes to the Lord’s table, the person with the processional Cross goes first, followed by Choir, then the person, who carries in both hands the Bible from which the lessons are to be read, then the presbyter.
The minister places the Bible on the Lord’s Table or on a lectern.
A lyric or hymn is sung.
The persons to be married present themselves before the minister, the man standing at the right hand of the woman.
The minister says:
DEARLY beloved, we are gathered here in the presence of God to join this man and this woman in marriage. This is a way of life instituted by God, and Holy Scripture commands all men to hold it in honor. Our Lord Jesus Christ blessed it by his presence at Cana of Galilee.
About this way of life, hear what our Lord says:
‘ From the beginning of creation, “ God made them male and female”. “ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and thee two shall become one.” So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together let no man put asunder.’ Mark 10:6-9
Marriage is therefore not by any to be undertaken lightly or ill advisedly, but seriously and prayerfully, duly considering the purposes for which it is ordained.
It is ordained:
That husband and wife may give to each other life-long companionship, help, and comfort, both in prosperity and in adversity;
That God may hallow and direct the natural instincts and affections created by himself, and redeemed in Christ;
That children may be born and brought up in families in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ to the glory of God;
That, marriage being thus held in honor, human society may stand upon firm foundations.
THE MARRIAGE
The minister says:
These two persons have come here to be made one in this holy estate. But if anyone here knows any just cause why they may not be married according to the discipline of the Church and the law of this land, let him now make it known, or else forever hold his peace.
If no impediment is alleged, he says to the persons who are to be married:
I charge you both in the presence of God, that if either of you knows any reason why you may not be joined together in marriage, you do now confess it.
If no impediment is alleged, the man and woman may now garland each other; and the minister says:
ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, without whose help we cannot do anything as we ought, we pray that, as thou has brought these persons together by thy providence, thou wilt enrich them with thy grace, that they may enter into the marriage covenant as in thy sight, and truly keep the vows they are about to make; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Then the minister says to the man:
N, will you have this woman, M, to be your wife, and cleave to her alone?
And the man answers: I will.
The minister says to the woman:
M, will you have this man, N, to be your husband, and cleave to him alone?
And the woman answers: I will.
If the woman is given in marriage by her parent or guardian, the minister says:
Who gives this woman to be married to this man?
And the parent or guardian puts the woman’s right hand into the right hand of the man.
If the parent or guardian is not present, the minister says:
N and M, give each other the right hand.
And the man says after the minister:
I, N, Take you, M, to be my wife, To have and to hold from this day forward; For better, for worse; For richer, for poorer; In sickness and in health; To love, cherish, and protect, till death us do part, According to God’s holy law; And to this I give you my pledge.
They still hold hands, and the woman says after the minister;
I, M, Take you, N, to be husband, To have and to hold from this day forward; For better, for worse; For richer, for poorer; In sickness and in health; To love, cherish, and obey, till death us do part, According to God’s holy law; And to this I give you my pledge.
The minister says:
God has heard your vows, and we are witnesses.
The minister may bless the mangalasutra, ring, or rings, saying:
BLESS this mangalasutra [ring(s)], O merciful Lord, that he who gives it and she who wears it may ever be faithful one to the other, and continue together in love so long as they both shall live; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
The minister delivers the mangalasutra to the man, who puts it on the woman in the customary manner, and holds it. Or else the minister delivers the ring to the man, who puts it on the woman’s finger, and holds it. The man then says after the minister:
This mangalasutra [ring] I give you in token of constant faith and abiding love. I honor you with my body, and all my worldly goods with you I share.
