CSI & CNI BURIYAL SERVICE AT CEMETERY
THE BURIAL
The minister meets the procession at the gate of the cemetery, and says:
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By His mercy we have been born anew to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from thee dead. 1 Pet. 1: 3
As the body is taken to the grave, the minister says sentences from the Bible, such as thee following:
Christ has been raised from the dead, thee first fruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. 1 Cor. 15: 20-22
Fear not, says the Lord; I am the first and the last, and thee living one; I died, and behold I am alive for evermore. Rev. 1: 17, 18
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me. Ps. 23: 4
At the graveside the minister says:

Christ has many services to be done; some are easy, others are difficult; some bring honor, others bring reproach; some are suitable to our natural inclinations and temporal interests, others are contrary to both. In some we may please Christ and please ourselves, in others we cannot please Christ except by denying ourselves. Yet the power to do all these things is assuredly given us in Christ, who strengtheneth us.
Therefore let us make the covenant of God our own. Let us engage our heart to the Lord, and resolve in His strength never to go back.
Being thus prepared, let us now, in sincere dependence on His grace and trusting in His promises, yield ourselves anew to Him, meekly kneeling upon our knees.

THE OFFICE FOR MAKING
A CATECHUMEN
The admission of a person as a catechumen should normally be at a service of public worship, and may take place after the Lessons. Suitable lessons may be read.
After the Lessons, the candidate is led forward by his sponsors, and the presbyter says:
N, who is present here, desires to be received as a catechumen. He has promised to undergo regular instruction. Let us therefore pray for him and welcome him with brotherly love.
Let us pray
ALMIGHTY and most merciful God, we pray thee to look favorably upon this person who desires to be brought out of darkness into the clear light of thy truth and the glorious liberty of thy children. Grant that he may now make a sincere profession of his purpose, and may receive of thee grace to continue steadfast in the path he has chosen, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
He then asks: N, what do you desire?
Answer: I ask of you Christian teaching and Holy Baptism.
Do you accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior?
Answer: I do.
Are you willing to place yourself under our guidance and instruction that you may be prepared for admission into the Church by baptism?
Answer: I am willing.
Do you renounce all those customs and practices and teachings which you know to be contrary to Christ’s will?

A CATECHUMEN

A THANKSGIVING AFTER CHILDBIRTH
This thanksgiving should be made at a public service of the Church, and the congregation should join in the saying of the Psalm and the Lord’s Prayer.

About this way of life, hear what our Lord says:
‘ From the beginning of creation, “ God made them male and female”. “ For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and thee two shall become one.” So they are no longer two but one. What therefore God has joined together let no man put asunder.’ Mark 10:6-9

These two persons have come here to be made one in this holy estate. But if anyone here knows any just cause why they may not be married according to the discipline of the Church and the law of this land, let him now make it known, or else forever hold his peace.
If no impediment is alleged, he says to the persons who are to be married:
I charge you both in the presence of God, that if either of you knows any reason why you may not be joined together in marriage, you do now confess it.
If no impediment is alleged, the man and woman may now garland each other; and the minister says:
ALMIGHTY and most merciful Father, without whose help we cannot do anything as we ought, we pray that, as thou has brought these persons together by thy providence, thou wilt enrich them with thy grace, that they may enter into the marriage covenant as in thy sight, and truly keep the vows they are about to make; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
